Cannon Beach

After losing 5 gorgeous days to unpacking, we decided to take Teddy (and Colin) to Cannon Beach for their first visit to the Pacific Ocean.

In general, Teddy's not a huge fan of water. He wasn't too sure about the ocean, but we were able to walk him into a few inches of water before he threw on the brakes and looked for an escape route. Here are some pics and videos from our day at the beach.

Stop starring at my headgear!

Teddy had an incident and was bitten by another dog. He'll be OK, but until the punctures heal, he has to wear some headgear... it's really hard not to laugh at the little guy.

Buster isn't sure what to make of it...

Teddy (and Annie) get a surprise...

Thanks to mad-genius-mastermind Janis Barker, Annie and Teddy got a surprise on Friday night. They both thought I was still in Brooklyn, NY as they arrived at Grandma Barker's house in Medford, OR.

Nope... enjoy:

It just keeps snowing...

... And Teddy couldn't be happier. He has developed a weird habit though. When I throw a ball (or act like I've thrown a ball), he runs for a few paces and then starts to hop/bound like a Springbok. I'm not sure how easy it is to spot in a video, but it cracks me up every time.

Teddy: 1, Grr Toy: 0

Another exciting morning in Portland...

West Coast!

Teddy was a trooper and made the move to Portland pretty easily. He didn't bark when he was taken away at JFK, he didn't mess his crate over Montana, and he quickly became friends with the Buster, the family dog. He loves his new doggy daycare, and really has only developed one, tiny, horrible habit... he can't sleep past 5am.

Here are some pics and videos, to illustrate what Teddy's and his mom's mornings are like these days...

Big Boy Stuff

Teddy has been busy lately doing big-boy activities, like obedience drills

walking over the Manhattan Bridge

and helping Dad cook.

Teddy has a big move coming up - he and his mom will be moving 3,000 miles West to Ptown. Lots of pics of the adventure will be posted in the coming weeks.

Almost seven months ago...

Hard to believe he was ever this small.

Pssssttt...

Famous Teddy's who wish Teddy a Happy Birthday...

On this special day, a few of Teddy's admirers wanted to honor a fellow Teddy:

World famous boxing trainer and commentator Teddy Atlas.

Guy and Blackstreet founder and world class producer Teddy Riley.

Everyone's favorite (creepy) talking bear Teddy Ruxpin.

No introduction needed for Mr. Teddy Pendergrass. He also said, "TEDDY!! YOU GOT... YOU GOT... YOU GOT WHAT I NEED!!"

The Honorable President Teddy Roosevelt.

Ted Danson, AKA Sam Malone, who also had this to say: "U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!"

Update: Teddy Got Big

He hasn't been weighed in a few weeks, but we are pretty sure he's pushing 95-100lbs.

Teddy, however, still thinks he's a lap dog.

March 12, 2008

March 12, 2008 shall no longer be known as March 12, 2008. It shall forever be known as the Infamous Mud Butt Debacle of 2008.

Teddy and Moose have been spending the days (while we're at work) in a large exercise pen that is attached to the front of Teddy's cage, with the cage door fully open. We thought it would be good for the two of them to have some contact during the day. Oops...

I came home yesterday evening and thought that I smelled something... umm... off in the building hallway. Chalking it up to one of my neighbors, I continued towards the apartment door.

As I got closer though, I knew that I was going to soon be on clean-up duty. The odor was sharp, getting stronger and emanating from our door.

Upon entering the apartment, I immediately headed towards the bedroom to assess the damage.

It was massive.

I guess Teddy had a little bit of an upset stomach because there were "piles" of poo all over the wood floors. There was also some on Moose's bed, and poopy footprints on both of Teddy's blankets, his bed covering and the towel I had under the water dish. I swear I checked the ceiling just in case I missed something.

It took three quarters of a fresh roll of paper towels just to get all the poo off the floor, and the rest of the roll to do an initial wipe down. Then I took the dogs to the dog park.

When Annie met me there, I gave her two options: (a) she could do the laundry, or (b) the floor scrubbing. She opted for (c) bribe me to do both (a) and (b) by buying me a handle of Dewar's. I acquiesced.

No pictures of the poo for you guys; just an image of Annie's clever little joke. Very funny, Ms. Barker.

Now why don't you just go to sleep... hee hee.

The Aftermath

The guys were tired after a good 30-45 minutes at the park, but if there's another dog around to play with, Teddy will go until he passes out or drops dead. We obviously prefer the former.

This is what they devolve into when they're too tired to stand up — practicing their ground game:

Sure they look ferocious...

...but they always end up like this:

Teddy likes 'em fiesty; Moose likes 'em easy

Teddy and Moose hit the dog park again yesterday evening. Good times were had by all (the best time was had by Moose... scroll down for the reason), and everybody went home just like we like them — tired.

On Monday, Moose... uh... made a new friend. A... uh... BOY-friend. Yesterday, the love of his life was back, and the two of them kept sneaking off to the corner of the dog park to wrestle and — how shall I put this delicately — be inappropriate.

Here is some of the appropriate material:
